Day Trip - Silverton / Ouray, CO

Silverton, CO   -  Round Trip 201 miles

The trip to Silverton, CO goes through 2 high mountain passes, Coal Bank Pass and then Molas Pass.   This a beautiful trip through two high mountain passes, so you will want to be careful by checking the weather reports during the winter season.  These passes are closed temporarily each winter for snow removal and then repoen for traffic.  In some conditions chains are required. 

Ouray, CO  -  Round Trip 244 miles

The trip from Silverton, CO over Red Mountain Pass to Ouray, CO travels through beautiful high mountains of the San Juans on the Million Dollar Highway.  This road is narrow and difficult in places, and during the winter may be closed for long periods of time to clear snow and avalanches.  If you get a chance to take this trip, do not forget your camera.  Chains may be required in some conditions.  Ouray is named after a Ute Chief.
